What’s new in NMTools v4.54b0

Well, here we are again! :D. This is a much long awaited release. Definitely, this product is becoming more and more mature with each iteration. I can now say this from the experience of running NMTools on big and complex Production Environments to solve real problems and handle considerably demanding situations.

There is a lot of hidden work that has been done during the last eight months. That is why I would like to start thanking all the people that has contributed to this release in any way: code, feedback, ideas, etc.…

Information Quality in OpenSLIM

It's time to spend some time on a tough topic: Information Quality. OpenSLIM implement several functions whose main purpose is to guarant data coherence when one has to deal with certain IT Processes: Provisioning, Repairings, Decommissionings, and so forth. In these cases, Registration Criteria is hard-wired inside OpenSLIM and you don't need to worry about it unless you want to change it.

Unfortunately there still exist rules that you will have to settle if you want to have good levels on your Information Quality.…

OpenSLIM v3.73b0 released!

It’s finally here! This is the first release since the NMTools spin off. A lot has happened since then. In fact, there are many changes in the OpenSLIM roadmap that I would like to tell you over the course of the following weeks.

As every new version, this one represents an additional step forward in functionality and also in reliability. Here is the list of new additions and improvements that this new major release incorporates:

  1. Systems Decommissioning Management.
  2. Improvements on how Virtual Environments are handled.

NMTools v4.0b0 released!

Being able to allocate enough time to finally publish this release hasn't been an easy task for me. I hardly can believe it, but it's here! 😀

This is a very special announcement because this release introduces lot of new features and also introduces very deep changes from the previous versions.

One of the most noticeable details is that NMTools is now an independent project. It will no longer tied to OpenSLIM. Nevertheless, OpenSLIM still will be a dependency and you need it to fully take advantage of what NMTools delivers.…

It’s finally here! Once again, this new version represents an additional step forward in functionality and also in reliability.

As previous versions, documentation is something I must work on. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to do it the way it should. But, I will be posting working samples, screenshots, and demo videos that will help on the training aspects of this tools.

Anyway, if you want to help with documentation or any other aspect, just let me know: I would love to build a team to make this project grow bigger and stronger.…

OpenSLIM & NMTools v3.33b0!

It's finally here! It's been a pretty hard task because this new version represents a very important step forward not only in functionality but also in reliability.

OpenSLIM & NMTools v2.8b0

A new release is finally here! You can download the latest bits on the Download Section as usual.

Changes on OpenSLIM:

  • Added Basic Node Security Management.
  • Improved Service Issue Management.
  • Improved Progress Management usability and reliability.
  • Added Printable Progress Report.
  • Added LastUpdateDate automatic detection and field update on every form.
  • Added new quick reports.
  • Improved usability on Tasks & Issues Management.
  • Added new fields: CorporateCMDBLastUpdateDate, RiskTypes

Changes on NMTools:

  • Corrected database storage issues.

I must confess that I am becoming quite dependent on this tool.…

More on OpenSLIM and NMTools…

Wow! What an intense week! It's being pretty hard to keep with regular postings. Obviously, working 12 hours a day doesn't help at all, but projects keep progressing successfully :D.

A new version of OpenSLIM and NMTools, v2.7b0, has been released last week. Version 2.8b0 is now on the way!. NMTools have reached a usable state thanks to a contribution from JJ who helped on resolving the last major issue. I am also introducing more Reports to the current OpenSLIM catalog; new UI for Contacts Management; some minor improvements on Tasks and Progress Management, etc.…

OpenSLIM & NMTools v2.6b0

I still can't believe it… I will end my holidays with major milestones complete!

Of course, to ship is to choose, and there are details on this beta release that need further testing and may need to be fixed. This is specially true when we talk about NMTools, the newest piece on this little puzzle.

OpenSLIM is an MS Access application and I've been running its previous versions for the last 6 months. Currently, I am handling more than 1000 Nodes on more than 80 Services with it and, in my opinion, behaves fairly well.…
